Awami League Advisory Council member Tofail Ahmed Monday said Sheikh Kamal had set an instance before the children of the world leaders as he had stayed away from abusing power even being the son of Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, reports BSS.

“Sheikh Kamal didn’t abuse power . . . Even being the eldest son of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu, he was not an egoistic person but a modest, amiable and helpful identity for all,” he told a discussion, marking the 70th birth anniversary of Sheikh Kamal at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy auditorium here. He said well-mannered Sheikh Kamal was loved by all for his polite and friendly attitude.

Referring to Pakistani government’s imposition of a ban on Rabindra Sangeet in 1969, Tofail said Sheikh Kamal along with renowned singer Jahidur Rahman had tried to perform the songs at different programmes. The AL senior leader said whenever Kamal got chances, he tried to set an example of triggering nonviolent protests against the Pakistani misrule by singing the songs of equity.

Bangladesh Awami Juba League (JL) chairman Omor Faruk Chowdhury presided over the discussion. JL general secretary Md Harunur Rashid, presidium member Shaheed Serniabad, Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury and Md Faruk Hossain, among others, spoke there. JL chairman Omor Faruk said Sheikh Kamal was a youth of inspirational character to be followed by the young generation.
