Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra confirmed their spot of quarters at the Independence Cup football after winning their respective group matches held on Monday.
Held at Bashundhara Kings arena, Sheikh Jamal crushed Brothers Union Club by 4-0 goals in their opening group A match. Brazilian attacking midfielder of Sheikh Jamal Club Higo Rodrigaze attacked from the very beginning on the Brother’s defence. He scored twice and assisted another one for his team.
Former Champions Sheikh Jamal scored two goals each in two half. They made a good start in the season. Rodrigaze scored in the 11th minute of the match. He took the lead again in 36th minute of the encounters scoring his team’s second goal. The first half ended in 2-0.
Colombian Forward Vladimr Diaz netted third goal for the team in 59th minute. Forward Shazzad Hossain sank the Gopibagh Outfit in 73rd minutes. It was his first and teams fourth goal.
Sheikh Jamal and Bangladesh Police will take on 2nd November at the same venue. Sheikh Jamal needs to draw to become top in the group, while Bangladesh Police must win in the game to stay laive. The two teams collected three points from one match. But Sheikh Jamal are in top position on a goal difference.
In the day's another match, Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra also reached to the quarterfinal from group B with a solitary goal victory over Bangladesh Air Force Football team held at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.
After the barren first half, midfielder Dipok Roy scored the all-important goal for Sheikh Russel in the 61st minute of the match.
