Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club defeated the defending champion Abahani Limited by 4 wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday to clinch their maiden Dhaka Premier League title. Abahani scored 229 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 50 overs. In reply, Sheikh Jamal reached the target with 18 balls left.
However, at one stage of the match, Sheikh Jamal had a big fear. In the other match of the day, Legends of Rupganj defeated Gazi Group Cricketers by a huge margin of 196 runs and kept them under pressure.
However, Sohan did not allow any incident to happen. He brought a unique victory to the team with his extraordinary batting. The title of the team is confirmed.
Chasing the target, Sheikh Jamal kept losing wickets at regular intervals in the controlled bowling of Abahani bowlers.
But almost all the batsmen were set on the wicket. After losing 5 wickets for 78 runs, Sohan took the helm of the team with Parvez and had a partnership of 72 runs. After Parvez was out, Sohan finished the rest of the work with Zia. They pair made an unbeaten 82 runs partnership. Sohan played the highest innings of 81 runs for the team. He hit 8 fours and 2 sixes off 81 balls. Zia remained unbeaten after playing a great innings of 39 runs off 26 balls compiled with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Parvez played an effective innings of 33 runs. Saifuddin took 2 wickets for 36 runs for Abahani.
Earlier, Abahani won the toss and elected to bat first, losing three wickets in the first innings for 35 runs. Then Touhid Hridoy took the helm of the team with Afif Hossain Dhrubo.
