Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina works for changing fate of the next generation.
“Sheikh Hasina does not do election-centered politics rather she works for changing for fortune of the next generation,” he told the inaugural ceremony of the seventh national congress of Bangladesh Awami Jubo League at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan.
Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the congress of Awami Jubo League, an associate body of the ruling AL, by hoisting the national flag, releasing pigeons and balloons.
Quader, also Road Transport and Bridges Minister, said Sheikh Hasina is the name of the country’s most honest person, popular politician, prudent leader, efficient statesman and successful diplomat.
Her development works and achievements have been lauded at home and aboard, he added.
The AL general secretary called upon the Jubo League leaders and workers to make the ongoing anti-graft drive a success.
“Say no to terrorism, corruption, tender manipulation, extortion and land grabbing,” Quader said.
Jubo League Council Preparatory Committee Convener Chayan Islam chaired the inaugural session while its member secretary Harun-or-Rashid also addressed it. Besides, Presidium Member of Jubo League Mujibur Rahman delivered the welcome address while Presidium Member Belal Hossain read out the death reference.
Marking the congress, the historic Suhrawardy Udyan wore a festive look. Hundreds of leaders and workers started gathering at the venue since morning. A stage in the shape of Padma Bridge was erected for the congress.
As many as 28,000 councilors from 77 organising districts across the country took part in the triennial national congress of the Jubo League.
Shahid Sheikh Fozlul Haque Moni had formed the youth organisation “Bangladesh Awami Jubo League” on November 11 in 1972 at the directive of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
