Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has begun her party Awami League’s nationwide electoral campaign from Jashore on Thursday ahead of the next general election, slated for January 2024. As part of the campaign, addressing a mammoth gathering at Jashore District Stadium, Sheikh Hasina, also the President of ruling Awami League, urged the people to vote for her party’s election symbol “boat” to give her government another chance to serve the nation.

It was her first appearance at a public gathering outside the capital Dhaka after over 27 months since the Covid-19 outbreak. The gathering at the venue and its surrounding areas, including lanes and bylanes, turned into a vast human sea as people from all strata including leaders and activists of the Awami League, its front and associate bodies from Jashore and its adjoining districts thronged in thousands to see and hear the prime minister after five years.

Sheikh Hasina, the elder daughter of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, said her government is working tirelessly so that the country could stay in the world arena with self dignity. So, the ruling Awami League has been able to put Bangladesh’s economy on a strong footing though the entire world is experiencing the economic recession due to the Covid-19, Russia-Ukraine war, sanctions and counter sanctions. The first electoral campaign is seen very significant as Sheikh Hasina’s address will rejuvenate her party networks from top to bottom and further strengthen its organisational activities across the country. The party has also completed about four years’ tenure of third straight term government amid the coronavirus pandemic coupled with Russia-Ukraine war, different natural disasters and conspiracies.

Braving all sorts of plots, hurdles and

odds, the ruling Awami League

continued pulling the country towards

development following the ideology

and footsteps of Bangabandhu

Sheikh Hasina is serving as the prime minister for the third consecutive term after her party won the 11th parliamentary election by a landslide on Dec 30, 2018. No leader in the country’s political history has been at the helm for this long. She wants to make her party stronger especially at the grassroots level ahead of the 12 the parliamentary election. In this regard, the party leaders will have to make their strides to remove all sorts of internal wrangling in all organisational units across the country ahead of the forthcoming national election. As the election is approaching, Bangabandhu’s killers, plotters at Tarique Rahman’s political office Hawa Bhaban, some rightists, leftists and extreme leftists and Jamaat-e-Islami led by Bangladesh Nationalist Party are out to grab state power using the backdoor. They are also resorting to falsehood to misguide the people.

But, braving all sorts of plots, hurdles and odds, the ruling Awami League continued pulling the country towards development following the ideology and footsteps of Bangabandhu. Therefore, we believe Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming all electoral campaigns will unite the countrymen to take a fresh oath to build the nation imbued with the spirit and mantra of the Liberation War.
