Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni started his political career during his student life. He was general secretary of Chhatra League from 1960 to 1963. In 1962, he was arrested for leading the movement against the Hamoodur Rahman Education Commission Report, and was in jail for six months. In the convocation ceremony held in April 1964, he rejected the certificate issued by Abdul Monem Khan, the then Chancellor of the Dhaka University and Governor of East Pakistan. The University authority revoked his degree against which he fought a legal battle and won his case. Sheikh Moni was again arrested under Public Safety Act in 1965. He was imprisoned for one and a half year. For his dynamic role in the Six-point Movement in 1966 he was detained.

The pain and deprivation he endured during those days of detention was harrowing. He endured all the pains without showing any weakness to the oppressors as he was inspired by the spirit of patriotism awaken by his idol and role model Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Later he was released during the Mass Upsurge in 1969.On 11 January 1970, the Bangla weekly Banglar Bani was first published with Fazlul Haque Moni as its editor. He was a brilliant and a gifted journalist and editor, who could write simultaneously in English and Bangla. Not only he had an unerring instinct for news but also he built a brilliant team of highly talented reporters.

Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni is a fighter who redefined the word “sacrifice”.

We pay our sincerest tribute to Sheikh Moni on his birthday today. On

this day, the Jubo League and the youth of Bangladesh must make a

vow to work together following Sheikh Moni's ideals

He was the founder of Mujib Bahini, (Bangladesh Liberation Force) one of the major guerrilla forces of the Bangladesh Liberation War and he participated whole-heartedly in the liberation war. The Mujib Bahini, or Bangladesh Liberation Force (BLF), was an armed force which was formed during the Bangladesh Liberation War to fight against Pakistan Army in 1971. The force was mainly composed of activists drawn from the Awami League and its student front, the Chhatra League. Sheikh Moni was the founding organizer of this special force.

He carried out several successful guerrilla operations which shook the enemies. Being the fighter of several successful guerrilla operations in Dhaka, Cumilla, Noakhali, Sylhet, Chittagong, and Chittagong Hill Tracts, he became an icon of thousands of youth freedom fighters and at the same time an implacable enemy of the Pakistan Army. He had been an inspiration of youth and had ignited the fire of freedom in thousand hearts, who fought fearlessly to free our country.

Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni under the direction of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman founded Jubo League, the youth wing of ruling Awami League with the aim of involving the youth in the struggle for a democratic and exploitation-free Bangladesh. On November 2020 Jubo League has announced a 201 member committee consisting of enthusiastic youth. We hope they will contribute to build a non-communal Bangladesh. They should not be afraid to embrace leadership roles regardless of their age.

The youth of any country is a great asset. They are indeed the future of the nation and represent the country at every level. The youth plays a pivotal role in building social cohesion, economic prosperity and political stability of a nation in an inclusive and democratic way. The involvement of youths in the nation-building process is a must as they play one of the most important roles. The Bangladeshi youth have played a major role in the independence and politics of this country. During the time of independence, Bangabandhu called up the youth of the country to participate actively in the struggle for freedom. Youth from all over the nations sacrificed their precious lives to free us from the shackles of the enemy.

Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni has been an inspiration for youth who ignited the fire of freedom in thousands of hearts. He fought fearlessly to free our country. Because of their sacrifices every day we breathe new life in a free and independent country. Sheikh Fazlul Haque Moni is a fighter, warrior and a hero who redefined the word “sacrifice”. We pay our sincerest tribute to Sheikh Moni on his birthday today. On this day, the Jubo Legue and the youth of Bangladesh must make a vow to work together following Sheikh Moni's ideals.
