Musician and poet Farzana Wahid Shayan has always been vocal against oppression, often using her songs and poetry as tools of protest. Recently, following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on 5 August, Shayan has faced questions and criticism on social media regarding her silence during the current state of unrest in the country. Many wondered why she wasn't actively protesting with her art as before.

In response, Shayan released a 15-minute video message on her verified Facebook page on Tuesday. She addressed the criticism and clarified her position, stating that song and poetry have always been her way of protesting and will continue to be so. Shayan also recited her new poem titled ‘While You Judge Me’, which was written in response to the backlash she received.

In the video, Shayan explained that some people had accused her of contributing to the chaos by being part of the movement that brought down the dictatorship. She emphasized that the dictatorship's downfall was due to its own actions, not hers. Shayan also addressed rumors about her death, calling them harmful and irresponsible.

Shayan made it clear that she will not engage in any form of violence or attacks, choosing instead to express her thoughts and protests through her art. "I will always respond with poetry and song," she said. "This is my way of protesting, and it will not change."

Despite the criticism, Shayan stands firm in her belief that art is her form of resistance and will continue to be her voice during times of turmoil.
