Actor Sharif Siraj, known for his roles in projects like YouTumor, Mercules, Virus, and Esha Murder, is stepping into film production with his upcoming film Uraal. Directed by Jobaidur Rahman, the film is set to hit theatres on August 1, marking Sharif’s official debut as a producer. The date also coincides with International Friendship Day, making the film’s theme of friendship all the more special.
The first-look poster of Uraal was revealed on Saturday, creating a buzz among film enthusiasts. Speaking to The Daily Star, Sharif shared his excitement about moving behind the camera and bringing this project to life. “We wanted this film to be fresh in both cast and story. It’s not a typical commercial film with action or dance sequences but a heartfelt story about life, friendship, and emotions,” he said.
Uraal follows the lives of three childhood friends in Rangpur — a hawker, a shop salesman, and a cycle mechanic. Despite being school and college dropouts, they remain inseparable while navigating the hardships of adulthood. The story, written by Samrat Pramanik, resonated deeply with Sharif and his team from the start.
Director Jobaidur Rahman, making his silver screen debut, has long experience working in the industry as an assistant director. Sharif mentioned their past collaborations helped build trust for this project. “Jobaidur understands characters and relationships beautifully,” he noted.
The film, shot in Rangpur’s native dialect, received censor board clearance during the Eid holidays. The board reportedly praised the film and encouraged more projects like it. Sharif hopes Uraal will touch audiences with its sincerity and honest portrayal of friendship.
