‘Share of renewable energy in fuel mix up’

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid on Sunday said the share of renewable energy in the fuel mix is steadily increasing.

The state minister came up with the assertion while speaking as the chief guest at a function virtually.

Nasrul Hamid said Rooftop Solar and Net Metering System are profitable business models. More research is needed on the technology of power generation from waste, wind, ocean energy.

 ‘Some 6 million solar home systems have been used to electrify off-grid areas in the country. In some isolated islands or villages, electricity has been provided through submarine cables. Special emphasis has been laid on saving electricity as well as increasing customer service,’ he added. 

Among others, State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Zakir Hossain, Barrister Shamim Haider Patwari MP and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Rezaul Karim spoke on the occasion. Runa Khan, Chief Executive Officer of the ‘Friendship’ presided over the programme.

Friendship officials said that some 471 families live in Gayanar Patal Char under Nayerhat union of Chilmari upazila in Karigram district. The 54-kilowatt solar micro-grid in the area will provide uninterrupted power to 100 families, as well as a local market consisting of 24 shops, a friendship primary school, a legal booth, a weaving center, a sewing center, and a flood shelter with 28 families.
