Shanarei Devi Shanu is an actress, while Putul is a singer. But for the past several years, they meet each other at the Ekushey Book Fair almost every day. Even though they are of different profession they are both involved with writing. For the past several years, their books are being regularly published.
This year, two novels of Shanu and Putul have also been published in the Ekushey Book Fair. However, a book of poems by Shanu has also been published. Shanu’s novel is titled ‘Lipstick’, the doll’s novel is ‘Kalo Golaper Vitor Theke Utsharito Alobrittanto’. Two books have been published by ‘Anwesha’ and ‘Tamralipi’, respectively.
Shanu’s poem book ‘Priyotomo Megh’ has been published by Anwesha Prokashoni which contains 96 poems.
In reference to the ‘Lipstick’ novel, Shanu says, “From the first day of the book fair, I have been going there regularly. I spend a lot of time sitting in the stall. I also spend time with those who are fans of my writing. ‘Lipstick’ is a story of something that happens to every woman at least once in their life time, story of women’s strength mad struggle, not just the story of women, there is more to it.”
In the context of her novel, Putul says, “The hatred towards women who are of a darker skin tone in our society is the main point of my novel. I am have been going to the book fair daily. My mother and father too are accompanying me. I really enjoy the time of book fair. Because the time of the book fair is something in which I discover myself on a regular basis.”
Shanu and Doll say they have been getting a lot of response from readers for their novels since day one.
