The foreign ministry has asserted that British-woman Shamima Begum has never been a citizen of Bangladesh and she will not be given the right to enter the country.

In a statement the foreign ministry on Tuesday said a report related to Shamima drew their attention.
British citizen Shamima joined the terrorist group Islamic State at the age of 15. The British government cancelled her citizenship in February last year when she returned.

She appealed to the High Court and the Special Immigration Appeals Commission. The court rejected her appeal and described her as a citizen of Bangladesh.

“The clear stance of the Bangladesh government is that Shamima has never been the citizen of Bangladesh and she has no right in this regard. There is no scope to allow her to enter Bangladesh,” the foreign ministry said.

Shamima Begum (born 1999) is a British-born woman. She left the UK, aged 15, to join the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria, according to several media. In February 2019, the British government issued an order revoking her British citizenship.

A UK ruling said that when she was stripped of her UK citizenship, Begum “was a citizen of Bangladesh by descent, by virtue of [Bangladeshi nationality legislation].
