Bangladesh Test captain and all-rounder Shakib al Hasan remarked that Nurul Hasan Sohan’s appointment as the T20 captain for the Zimbabwe series was the right decision and was happy for the wicket-keeper batter.
Regular captain Mahmudullah Riyad and senior players including Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim were rested for the T20 series, which created a door for the youngster to lead the side in T20Is.
“I think he (Sohan) is capable and BCB felt that he can give a lot to the Bangladesh team in the future, so they gave him the captaincy. I wish him all the best. Hope the Zimbabwe series will be a good challenge for him and he can overcome that challenge,” said Shakib.
When Shakib was asked if he wants to take over as T20 captain, Shakib said he is more concerned with the Test captaincy.
“We will need time in Tests. It takes time to get better. There is a possibility, we are through the transactional period. So we will need some time,” he added. Bangladesh are scheduled to play three T20Is and as many ODIs in their upcoming white-ball tour of Zimbabwe from July 30 to August 10.
