Shakib second fastest spinner to take 300 ODI wickets

Shakib Al Hasan added another feather to his illustrious career by becoming the first Bangladesh bowler to take 300 wickets in one-day International cricket.

His feat came during the third and final ODI against England at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium as he claimed 4-35 to reach 300-wicket haul.

Earlier with willow, he made crucial 71 ball-75. His outstanding allround performance led the side to a 50-run victory as Bangladesh avoided a series sweep.

He in fact became the sixth spinner to take 300 wickets but second fastest behind Sri Lanka's spin wizard Muttiah Muralidaran. While Muralidaran took his 300th scalp in 202 matches, Shakib needed 227.

India's Anil Kumble needed 234 matches, New Zealand's Danile Vettori played 291 matches, Pakistan's Shahid Afridi in 314 matches and Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya in 397 matches got their 300th wicket.

Shakib made his ODI debut in 2006 against Zimbabwe and in that match he took one wicket for 39 runs, removing Elton Chigumbura. He got his 100 wickets in 88 matches in Dumbulla against Pakistan. His 100th scalp was Asad Shafique.

The ace allrounder needed 156 matches to reach 200th wicket. He also touched the milestone in Chattogram, dismissing South Africa's Hashim Amla in 2015.

Later, he needed to play 71 matches and eight years to reach the milestone of 300 wickets. England's debutant Rehan Ahmed was his 300th scalp.

Meanwhile, Shakib has entered the elite all-rounder club after taking the 300th scalp. He has also 6976 runs under his belt.

 Only Sanath Jayasuriya and Shahid Afridi are ahead of him. Jayasuriya has 13430 runs, 323 wickets in 445 matches and Afridi has 8064 runs and 395 wickets in 398 matches.

  Shakib is followed by Pakistan's Wasim Akram (3717 runs, 502 wickets), South Africa's Shaon Pollock (3519 runs, 393 wickets), New Zealand's Daniel Vettori (2253 runs, 305 wickets) and Sri Lanka's Chaminda Vaas (2025 runs and 400 wickets).
