Bangladesh team’s training session post World Cup have begun at the Sher-e-Bangla national Stadium in Mirpur yesterday (Saturday). Tigers’ ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has also joined team’s training session after the end of his long vacation. Shakib was the only positive for Bangladesh in the World Cup with his all-round performance and after shining for his team, he went for a break.
Shakib was not there during Tigers’ Sri Lanka tour. Shakib took vacation in order to perform Hajj. Now finally, the ace all-rounder and skipper of Bangladesh Test team is back in business ahead of a busy September. The national team’s conditioning camp began on 19 August under trainer Mario Villavarayan. On Saturday, national team’s first training session has begun ahead of a Test against Afghanistan and tri-nation T20 series against Afghanistan, Zimbabwe respectively.
Shakib was not in team’s four-day conditioning camp as he was on vacation. During yesterday’s training session, Shakib spoke with head coach Russell Domingo and pace bowling Coach Charl Langeveldt. Langeveldt and Shakib were having fun while Shakib was doing batting practice in the central wicket. They both were laughing while having a chat.
Shakib played the bowling of pacers Rubel, Taskin, Ebadat and Rahee very swiftly, for nearly half an hour. It did not seemed that he was out on vacation for almost two months. Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in a solitary Test match at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on September 5. So after the practice ended, skipper Shakib visited Cricket Management Committee Chairman, Akram Khan and Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin. They sat down to have discussion with Test skipper Shakib, regarding the type of pitch, which will favor Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, fielding practice after a light fitness test took place on the first day of practice session. The cricketers focused on fielding practice under the supervision of fielding coach Ryan Cook. Head coach Russell Domingo and pace bowling Coach Charles Langeveldt also emphasized on fielding practice. Bangladesh’s fielding was nothing more than ordinary during the World Cup. That’s why cricketers and coaches concentrated on fielding during practice session.
