Bangladesh T20 skipper Shakib al Hasan expressed his joy and gave credit to all departments for the historic clean sweep over England after clinching the third and last T20 by 16 runs in Mirpur.
Sent in to bat first, Litton Das and Najmul Hossain Shanto gave Bangladesh a good total, then debutant Tanvir Islam stuck in his first over to give a good start.
However, Dawid Malan and captain Jos Buttler were controlling the game.
But Mustafizur Rahman got his 100th T20I wicket in his 81st match, the fastest for a Bangladeshi, when removing Dawid Malan for 53 as England lost control midway through their chase after seemingly getting to a comfortable position.
The next delivery saw them lose Buttler for 40 runs to a brilliant run-out by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and the match was then decisively turned in Bangladesh's favor thanks to a double-wicket over from Taskin Ahmed.
"We were really good in this T20 series, fielded well, bowlers were good, batters contributed. Build on from here for the (T20) World Cup next year. We batted really well on a tricky wicket, credit to Litton [Das] and Rony [Talukdar], we were happy with the total and had to stick to our plan. That over to get two set batsmen out in two balls changed the game completely. From then on we had the momentum,” Shakib said in the presentation.
Bangladesh’s next mission is Ireland from March 18th and Shakib is aiming to continue this winning form “Ireland will be another challenge for us, we have to continue this performance"
Litton smashed a Twenty20 career-best 73 to seal the Man of Match award as he credited his batting partners Rony Talukdar and Shanto for his innings.
"I'm really happy and my family is really happy. When the bowler had the new ball it was challenging, and the wicket was tricky. The way Rony batted in the Powerplay, and afterward Shanto, all the pressure goes from my side" Litton said.
The Player of the Series was awarded to Shanto for his 144 runs in the three games.
"We won this series so a special thanks to my coaching staff and all the players who helped me through this series. If we field well it helps the bowlers, so we need to improve more. We have a big series coming up so hope we can continue our good performance" Shanto said.
The last time the current world champions suffered a series whitewash in this format was in 2014 when they lost 3-0 against Australia.
The T20 World Cup Champions’ disappointed captain Buttler credited Bangladesh for outplaying them and also blamed his poor form to cost the series. "It's really disappointing to lose but congrats to Bangladesh, they outplayed us and deserve their victory. We came back well, after missing some opportunities in the field. The wicket played better and it was a good score to restrict them to. Losing two wickets in two balls is really poor, very disappointed in myself for not diving, potentially cost us the game." Buttler said after the game.
