Shakib defends leave decision

Published : 16 Dec 2021 09:45 PM

Why does Shakib spend so much time away from the national team? Why does he shoot one ad after another on vacation? Why Shakib did not play in all the matches for the national team? Why Shakib is so much into business?

In a recent interview Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, who is staying in Dhaka on leave from New Zealand tour, answered about these questions regarding him that are being asked by the people.

Shakib Al Hasan is always in the discussion in one way or another. Sometimes for playing well, sometimes for winning with the team, sometimes for controversial reasons. So which discussion is coming to your ears right now?

Shakib Al Hasan: None.

But there are some discussions and your frequent vacations is one of the talked about topics at the moment.

Shakib: You see, people keep saying whatever they want; this is like you said. If I ask now, how many series have I taken a break from and how many have I been unable to play due to injury! It is easy to blame someone. Do I need to comment on these?

So what would you say in response to that discussion?

Shakib: I have nothing to say. Because, these are not objective discussions, which I am forced to comment on.

This time you took leave for personal reasons. So how is the holiday going?

Shakib: I am doing the work for the reason that I have taken leave. You can say some personal work. People want to keep personal matters private. Many may not want that and I want to keep my personal things very private.

When will the Bangladesh team get you again regularly?

Shakib: I hope to play from January.

As you are involved in many businesses, people always question that whether Shakib is a cricketer first or a businessman?

Shakib: Look, who says what, I have never heard it, there is no need to listen. I do not take these kinds of discussions seriously. I know what I'm doing, what I need to do. But yes, my identity is — I am a cricketer.
