The people, especially the freedom fighters of Shailakupa in Jhenidah observed the victory day (occupying forces free day) on Sunday. The upazila headquarters (then thana) was liberated upon from the clutches of the brutal Pakistani soldiers on the morning of December 8 in 1971.
To mark the day and show respect to the martyrs and living freedom fighters under the banner of Sammilito Muktijoddha Sangshad (a united platform of the freedom fighters) arranged rally, discussion and milad and dowa mahfil at the sangshad premises.
Presided over by ex commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha sangshad Shailkupa upazila unit command Manwar Hossain Malita, lawmaker of Jhenidah-1 seat freedom fighter Abdul Hyee attended as chief guest. Upazila parishad chairman Shikder Mosharaf Hossain Sona, upazia nirbahi officer (UNO) Saiful Islam, ex commander of Bangladesh Muktijoddha sangshad Jhenidah district unit command Makbul Hossain among others spoke.
The speakers urged upon the freedom fighters to prevent the negative activities of the evil forces involved in damaging the credibility of the liberation war earned under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through his historical speech on March 7 in 1971.
