Shailkupa admin takes initiative to rehabilitate beggars

Shailkupa upazila administration with the assistance of upazila social welfare office in Jhenaidah had taken an encouraging initiative to rehabilitate the beggars providing them cash and other required instruments so that they could lead their lives independently without others’ help. The assistance was distributed among 18 beggars at the upazila parishad premises aiming at rehabilitate the beggars as an alternative income sources for them. 

Of the total 12 were provided with goats, one with cash for Taka 45 thousand for a battery run auto-van, four for tailoring clothing. Minimum assistance was allocated for Taka 15 thousand.

Shailkupa upazila parishad chairman M Abdul Hakim Ahmed, acting upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Boni Amin, municipality mayor Kazi Ashraful Azam, woman vice chairman Nilufa Yesmin, upazila social welfare officer Sharif Uddin and union parishad chairmen Sabdar Hossain Mollah and Jahidul Islam were present.  

The speakers said the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had taken initiatives to rehabilitate all the beggars so that they could not extend hands for alms to anyone. All of them will grow self reliant gradually and take part in nation development activities like the ordinary people within a few years, they expressed hopes.
