State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam, MP, has said massive tree plantation can help reduce carbon emission to a substantial level and that is very important to face the adverse impact of climate change, reports BSS.
He identically mentioned that there is no alternative to create more forest area which needs creating awareness among the public in general so that they can contribute to this field effectively.
The state minister made this observation while inaugurating a three-day fruit tree fair at Bagha Upazila Parishad premises in the district on Friday as the chief guest.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shahin Reza and Agriculture Extension Officer Shafiullah Sultan also spoke on the occasion.
Shahriar Alam said optimum afforestation could help eradicating protein deficiency side by side with halting degradation of environment and biodiversity making the region a safe habitat for all.
All people irrespective of age, sex, creed and cast should plant at least three saplings around their respective homesteads or on any open space to help maintain environmental and ecological balance and save the region from the wrath of any natural catastrophe.
The state minister said planting more tree saplings has become crucial to protect the ecological balance.
He asked all concerned to put in their best efforts to make the region green by increasing the forest area.
Shahriar also stressed the need for production of safe fruit to protect public health from various hazards together with enriching the country’s export list.
He urged the farmers to follow the guideline of the field level agricultural officials and scientists during fruit farming and production.
The state minister laid emphasis on practicing of modern farming techniques and postharvest management for maximising the immense potentiality of mango production in the region. Growers should be educated on using modern techniques and post-harvest management so that they could be benefited more.
“Using chemical pesticides on farm lands are always harmful to soil and public health, crops and environment. So, it is urgent for promoting bio-rational pest management widely, he added.
