The 33rd founding anniversary of Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College was celebrated today through day-long programmes, transforming the campus into a vibrant reunion fair for teachers and students.
Marking the occasion with colourful events, former and current teachers and students participated in the festivities. The gathering of over fifteen hundred doctors and their family members created a festive atmosphere of reunion.
Former Principal of the college and BNP Media Cell Convener, Dr. Moudud Hossain Al-Mamun Pavel, inaugurated the programme at 9:00 AM. Among others, Celebration Committee Convener Principal Wadudul Haque Torofdar and Member Secretary Dr. A.N.M. Manwarul Kadir Bitu were present.
Following the hoisting of the national flag, a colourful rally featuring traditional 'hathi-ghora' (elephant-horse) and musical bands paraded around the campus. The day's events included cake-cutting and a discussion session.
Touched by the hues of joy, unity, and nostalgia, the campus shone brightly as "S.Z.M.C. Day 2025" was celebrated in a festive environment with the participation of alumni, current students, teachers, and guests—renewing the bonds and pride of the Ziaur Rahman Medical College family.
The programme, hosted by Dr. Zahidul Islam and Dr. Runa Parvin, began with welcome addresses from guests and organizing committee members, spreading messages of pride and inspiration across the campus.
Advisors to the organizing committee, including Hospital Director Brigadier General Md. Mohsin, Prof. Dr. Moinul Hasan Sadik, Prof. Dr. Shah Md. Shahjahan Ali, Prof. Dr. Azfarul Habib Roze, and Dr. M.A. Wahed, delivered speeches. Other speakers were Dr. Anwar Hossain Mukul, Dr. Md. Anisur Rahman, Dr. Mozammel Hossain, Dr. Md. Sarwar Hossain, Dr. Shariful Islam, Dr. Muhammad Zahurul Haque, and Treasurer Dr. Zahirul Islam Zahir.
A get-together, batch speeches, and reminiscence session held at the auditorium filled the environment with laughter, emotion, and memories of old days. Attendees joined together for noon prayers and a luncheon, with separate arrangements for teachers, alumni, and current students.
The afternoon featured an exciting treasure hunt, outings, and fun games, bringing new enthusiasm to both young and old. As evening set in, a cultural festival came alive, with current students and alumni captivating the stage with music, dance, and creative performances.
The institution was decorated for the anniversary. Students from various batches started arriving at the campus from the morning, delighted to reunite with old friends after a long time.
Celebration Committee Member Secretary A.N.M. Manwarul Kadir Bitu said, "This is an institution of pride for Bogura. Our event brings together over 1500 doctors, which will strengthen the bond between new and former students."
BNP Media Cell Convener Dr. Moudud Hossain Al-Mamun Pavel stated, "Our medical college is named after the great proclaimer of independence, Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. The students of this institution are serving with reputation in various establishments across the country. The young men and women are inspiring us in the development of the health sector. We stand with the commitment made by our future statesman, Mr. Tarique Rahman, for 'Health for All' and that 'No one shall die without treatment'. We hope for that auspicious day."
It may be mentioned that during BNP's tenure in power, 'Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College' was established in 1992 at the Medical Assistant Training School (MATS) building in the Thanthania area of Bogura city. In 2006, it was relocated to a dedicated building in Chelimpur on the city outskirts, becoming Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College and Hospital.
