A Dhaka Court on Monday placed Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed on a fresh seven-day remand in a graft case for embezzling Tk 2.71 crore from the Padma Bank (formerly known as The Farmers Bank Limited).

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge KM Imrul Kayes passed the order after a hearing.

Earlier on August 8, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Assistant Director Mohammad Shahjahan Miraj, who is also the Investigation Officer (IO) pleaded for a 10-day remand.

The court had fixed August 10 for the remand hearing in the presence of Shahed.

Earlier, the anti-graft commission filed a case against four including Shahed on allegations of embezzling Tk1.51 crore from NRB Bank Ltd.

The master fraud had been on the run since a case was filed against him for issuing fake Covid-19 test reports from Regent Hospital.

The anti-crime elite force Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Shahed from Satkhira on July 15.

Later, a RAB helicopter brought him in the capital Dhaka. RAB handed him over to the Detective Branch. However, the home ministry later ordered RAB to investigate all cases against Shahed. As per the order, the elite force is investigating the cases against Shahed.
