Shah Syed Abdul Bari new MD, CEO of NBL

Shah Syed Abdul Bari has been made the Managing Director and CEO of the National Bank Limited (NBL), a first generation private bank in the country. 

The decision was taken at the 445th meeting of the board of directors held on the virtual platform on Monday. Directors of the bank took part in a virtual meeting chaired by the bank’s chairperson Monowara Sikder.

Bari had been the Deputy Managing Director of the Bank before joining as Managing Director. After joining National Bank as SEVP in 2015, he was promoted to DMD in 2016 for his successful role.

Shah Syed Abdul Bari obtained his Master’s degree in Social Welfare from Dhaka University in 1983. He then started his banking career by joining Arab Bangladesh Bank in 1983 and gained 12 years of branch banking experience in his long career. 

He later held various key positions in National Bank, Mercantile Bank, Prime Bank and American Express Bank Limited. 

Moreover, he served in different sections of banking sector including General Banking Division, Credit Administration Division, Card Division, Human Resources Division, Internal Control and Compliance Division, Systems and Operations Division, Agriculture Credit Division, Risk Management Division, CSR, Training Institute, Credit Risk Management Supervisor and Head of Division, CAMLCO of the Bank and Regional Head of Chittagong. 

In the light of his long 38 years of professional experience, the board is hopeful that NBL, one of the country's leading banks, will ensure further and significant progress in various indicators of the economy.

National Bank Limited currently has deposits of over Tk 43,000 crore. It has been providing services for 39 years through 213 branches across the country.
