Seven homes were destroyed in two separate fire incidents in Raozan on Monday.

The first blaze broke out around 11:30am at the residence of Ansur Ali Talukdar in West Gohira, Ward 9 of Gohira Union. According to locals, the fire originated from an electrical short circuit and quickly engulfed six adjacent houses. Furniture, cash, gold ornaments and daily essentials were reduced to ashes, causing an estimated loss of Tk 25 lakh. The affected families were identified as those of Aiyub Kabir, Humayun Kabir, Jalal Uddin, Salauddin, Muhammad Sirajul Islam and Muhammad Firoz.

In a separate incident earlier the same morning, a house belonging to a man named Muhammad Ehsan in Dighirpar area of Raozan Municipality’s Ward 9 also caught fire. While Ehsan alleged that the fire was an act of arson, the Fire Service stated that it too was caused by an electrical malfunction. Ehsan, however, claimed the fire started in an area with neither wiring nor a stove, insisting it was a planned attack. He estimated losses at over Tk 3 lakh, including furniture, Tk 24,000–25,000 in cash and household items.

Abdullah Al Mamun Khan, Sub-Officer of Raozan Fire Service and Civil Defence, said fire units rushed to the scene in Gohira and brought the blaze under control, saving surrounding houses. He added that a semi-pucca house in Charabattola was also damaged.
