Seven days’ strict lockdown imposed in Benapole

Benapole Municipality and Sharsha Upazila have announced a strict lockdown for 7 days Due to the increased rates of coronavirus infection.

The lockdown will be in force from Wednesday to June 29, according to the decision of the District Corona Prevention Committee. Earlier, the lockdown lasted for a week from June 16 to June 23.

Benapole Port police have closed all types of shops and vehicles since Wednesday morning. Markets and grocery stores were open only till 12 o'clock. Police patrols were intensified at the intersections.

However, import-export trade between the two countries is normal. Police patrols have been intensified, specially to prevent Indian truck drivers from getting out of the port.

Officer-in-charge of Benapole Port Police Station Mamun Khan informed that police personnel are interrogating the people whenever anyone leaves the house unnecessarily and pedestrians are being forced to wear masks. Bamboo fence has made at various corners of Benapole Bazar.

OC Mamun Khan said that the markets and grocery stores will be open from 6 am to 12 noon everyday. Inter-district transports, all types of public transport, CNG, rickshaws, vans, auto rickshaws, motorcycles and three-wheelers have been stopped. All kinds of public gatherings, meetings, processions have been banned.

Drug stores, law enforcement and their vehicles, journalists' vehicles will be free from lockdown.

However, in the interest of collecting revenue of the government, import and export trade has been kept active in Benapole port. Those engaged in import-export work will be able to work in customs and ports.

Meanwhile, Sharsha Upazila Health Officer Dr. Yusuf Ali said that in the last 24 hours, samples of 57 people were tested and 29 corona were identified.
