Seven artistes to get Shilpakala Padak

Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) is going to confer the prestigious ‘Shilpakala Padak 2018’ on seven veterans for their immense contribution to the different fields of the country’s art and culture.

 ‘Shilpakala Padak 2018’ goes to Gaur Gopal Halder in vocal music, Sunil Chandra Das in instrumental music, M Hamid in dramatics, Mina Barua in folk culture, Alkesh Ghosh in fine arts, Shukla Sarkar in dance and Jayanta Chattopadhyay in recitation.

Each awardee will get a gold medal, a cheque for Tk 1 lakh and a certificate, according to the award’s regulations.

BSA Director Liaquat Ali Lucky announced the names of award recipients at a press conference on the academy premises on Wednesday.

President Abdul Hamid will hand over the awards at a programme tomorrow at 3pm at the National Theatre Hall of BSA in Segun Bagicha of the capital. Chaired by Additional Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal, State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid will be present as special guest at the event. BSA director Liaquat Ali Lucky will deliver welcome speech at the award ceremony.

After the discussion and award distribution, the artistes of BSA will perform acrobatics at the event.

However, a 16-member nomination committee, comprising of BSA director general secretary, six directors, seven cultural personalities and one representative from the Cultural Affairs Ministry, selected this year’s awardees.

Since 2013, BSA has been conferring the ‘Shilpakala Padak’ on a regular basis.
