Seven abducted fishermen rescued

Hatiya Coast Guard has rescued seven fishermen from Char Sakuchi area of Monpura upazila in Bhola district from Meghna river of Hatiya, Noakhali. However, no abductors were arrested at that time.

The rescued fishermen were handed over to their families on Sunday. All the rescued fishermen are from Bhola's Monpura upazila.

The rescued fishermen are Jahangir, son of Mozahar Bepari of Rahmanpur village in Monpura upazila of Bhola, Babul son of Solaiman of the same area, Ismail son of Khalil Majhi, Baset Majhi son of Basu Majhi, Riaz ,son of Main Uddin, Sohail son of Latif Sukani and Sohail Mia son of Mofiz.

According to sources, seven fishermen from Rahmanpur village of Monpura went fishing in Meghna River with a boat powered by a 

separate engine on Saturday night last week. 

At around 12 o'clock in the night, they cast their nets in the river Sakuchi area of Meghna River. A group of robbers attacked the fishermen's boat around 2 pm. At that time they abducted seven fishermen along with the boat. The families of the abducted fishermen were later demanded a large ransom.

Coast Guard Hatiya Station Commander Lt. Iftekharul Alam said, “Having such information from the fishermen families, a team of Coast Guard BCG Station of Hatiya raided the area of  Meghna River of Char Ataur on Sunday morning. During the operation, the robbers, sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, fled to a nearby jungle. Later, seven abducted fishermen were rescued from the spot. The boats used by the fishermen have been recovered. Attempts are being made to arrest members of the robber gang.”
