About 50 police stations in the capital to open separate investigation cells with extra manpower to manage all criminal cases filed in the police station. Such an initiative is aimed at enhancing efficiency and expedite handling of the cases much faster. The cells would also be under surveillance to ensure transparent dealings with complainants. The existing experience shows ignorance and lack of experience and manpower often delay the case handling at the police stations.
There will be multiple responsible officers at all crime cells at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headquarters. In the event of filing a general diary (GD) or a case in the police station, the plaintiff's number and case information should be sent to the central cell within 12 hours. After taking charge as the newly appointed DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam, such initiatives are being taken at his suggestion. The DMP issued the directive on Tuesday on what would be the next course of action for all criminal cases filed at the police stations.
Asked about the initiative, DMP Commissioner Shafiqul Islam strictly warned that if any is found harassing either victims or complainant stern action would be taken as the cases would be monitored. On bribery issues Islam said that a team from the DMP would be on constant vigilance to monitor such malpractice. He said that the police station must be a public friendly.
Additional Commissioner of Crime, Krishnapad Roy said that the police station is like a mirror. Everything will be done to change the environment of the police station. Senior officials will monitor everything. No one holding positions in the police station will be allowed to tarnish the image of the police.
DMP Joint Commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam said that if any victim seeks support of the police station, he or she should be carefully attended and take necessary measures to bring confidence. The necessary guidance has already been given in this regard. A responsible officer of the police said ADC and AC rank officers will be stationed at the police station at a certain time of the day to enhance the police services. They will give all kinds of suggestions to increase the quality of the police services and make the people friendly.
