Senior journo Dil Monowara Monu passes away

PM expresses condolence

Senior Journalist Dil Monowara Monu passed away at a city hospital on early Monday. She was 68. Family sources said she was brought to BIRDEM Hospital at about 1:30 am where the on duty doctor declared her dead. She was active in various organisations including Bangladesh Mahila Parishad and Nari Sangbadik Kendra.

Prime Minister Sheikkh Hasina expressed deep shock at the death of Dil Monowara. The premier prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family in a condolence message on Monday. Bangladesh Women Journalist Forum (BWJF) also expressed condolence over the death of Monu.

Monu started her career in journalism in 1974 as a sub-editor with ‘Begum’ magazine edited by Begum Sufia Kamal and Nurjahan Begum. Later, she joined fortnightly ‘Anayna’ as executive editor and was with the magazine for 25 years. Monu’s colleague Parveen Sultana Jhumma said the body was taken to her organisation Kochikachar Mela and Jatiya Press Club after first Namaz-e-Janaza at Lalmatia Bibi Mosque. She was buried at Jurain family graveyard, she added.
