Senior asstt secy of commerce ministry Nazia Sultana dies of dengue

SM Nazia Sultana, senior assistant secretary of the commerce ministry (World Trade Organization wing), died of dengue at a hospital in the capital on Tuesday. 

The officer of the 30th BCS breathed her last while undergoing treatment at BIRDEM Hospital in the morning, said Md Haidar Ali, public relations officer of the ministry.

Nazia, who was eight months pregnant, was admitted to the hospital two days ago.

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and Senior Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh expressed deep shock at the death Nazia.

In a condolence message, Tipu Munshi said that Nazia was a very talented and smart officer. “We have lost an honest and worthy officer with the untimely death of Nazia Sultana.”

He prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

The dengue situation in the country has turned serious this year. Nine deaths were reported from dengue in 24 hours till Monday morning, raising the fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 185 this year.

Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has recorded 35, 270 dengue cases, 27, 622 recoveries.
