Seminar on drug abuse in Bangladesh held at BUP

Indiscriminate abuse of drugs is critically damaging most of the human organs. Speakers at a seminar organized at Bangladesh University of Professional in the city made this observation on Tuesday.

BUP Vice Chancellor Major General Md Emdad-Ul-Bari was the chief guest at the seminar. Professor M Abul Kashem Mozumder pro-vice chancellor of BUP and Professor Dr Arup Ratan Choudhury were also attended the programme as special guests. Md Jamal Uddin Ahmed, director general of the department of narcotics control was also present as the keynote speaker. 

They said drugs abuse badly damage adolescent’s brain particularly the part that deals with emotion, memory and decision. They also stressed the need for raising awareness among the people along with various government initiatives for rehabilitation.  The chief guest BUP Vice Chancellor Major General Md Emdad-Ul-Bari said, all guardians and parents, teachers and nearest relatives must be vigilant to restrain youth from bad companies.

Preventive education, treatment and rehabilitation are priority issues to make a country drug abuse free. He also declared BUP is zero tolerant to drug abuse.  Brigadier General Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Studies Moderated the program. Invited guests, high officials, BUP officers, teachers and students were also present in the seminar.
