An international seminar on climate change was held at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) on Tuesday.

The seminar took place at the Bir Muktijoddha Hazi Mohammad Idris Auditorium of the university and it was organized by the Department of Environmental Science and Disaster Management (ESDM).

The main topics of the seminar were climate change, adaptation and mitigation, modern agricultural technology, renewable energy, environmental problem-solving, and sustainable management in coastal areas.

Researchers from various countries including Canada, South Korea, India, and China discussed environmental issues. They urged everyone to increase awareness of environmental problems and called for collaborative efforts for environmentally sustainable development in the region.

In the inaugural ceremony of the seminar, the chief guest was Professor Dr. Muhammad Alamgir, Chairman (Additional Responsibilities) of the University Grants Commission (UGC), while NSTU VC Professor Dr. Md. Didar-ul-Alam attended as the chief patron. Professor Dr. Muhammad Alamgir said that researchers and environmentalists have been expressing various concerns about the damaging effects of climate change for the past few years. Now, we are facing the grim reality.

Bangladesh is facing the harmful effects of climate change despite not being responsible for the emission of greenhouse gases and carbon on a global scale. Although there are various discussions globally on these issues, the consequences are not being adequately addressed. Countries with responsible capabilities for climate change are not reducing the emission of greenhouse gases and carbon.

The Chairman of UGC also stated that countries like ours need to ensure sustainable development and environmental improvement by taking the lead in adaptation and research to tackle the challenges of present and future climate change scenarios. Ensuring a habitable planet for future generations is the responsibility of us all.

Among other special guests, NSTU Pro VC Professor Dr. Mohammad Abdul Baki, NSTU Treasurer Professor Dr. Newaz Mohammed Bahadur, Dean of Science Faculty Professor Dr. Mohammad Atiqur Rahman Bhuiyan were present. The seminar was presided over by Dr. Mohammad Mohinuzzaman, Chairman of the ESDM Department.

During the seminar, an exhibition of 24 selected posters from teachers, students, and researchers from various universities took place.
