Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League joint general secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud has urged BNP to reach out to the people without rushing to foreigners.

When asked by reporters at the Secretariat on Wednesday afternoon about BNP's recent meeting with the UN Resident Coordinator and Ambassador to the European Union, he said, "We see BNP always rushing to foreigners. To foreign ambassadors, to foreign organizations. But the people of this country are the owners of this country, they are the owners of power, they will elect the representatives. No foreign ambassador or representative of an international organization has the right to vote for anyone in this country.”

Dr Hassan said, "It is not appropriate for foreigners to blow their noses in our internal affairs. But even though they don't want to blow their noses, we see BNP go to them with their noses. This is tantamount to making the country smaller. I would request the BNP to reach out to the people without rushing to foreigners. That would be better for aBNP.”

The Information Minister wished everyone a happy Eid-ul-Azha and said that more than eight lakh cattle have been sacrificed this year as compared to last year. The slaughter of more sacrificial animals proves that human capacity has increased. At the same time, cattle have been sacrificed in Bangladesh this year and many cattle have returned. That means we can meet our needs ourselves. This has been possible due to the diverse policies of the government.

Earlier, the Information and Broadcasting Minister unveiled the cover of the booklet 'Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100'. Secretary of the Ministry Md. Maqbool Hossain as the special guest and Director General of the Department of Film and Publication (DFP) S.M. Golam Kibria, Vice Chairman of the Film Censor Board Muha. Saifullah, DFP Director Mohammad Ali attended the event.

Regarding the booklet, the minister said the government is not only moving forward with a short-term plan, Prime Minister Bangabandhu Kanya Jannetri Sheikh Hasina wants to build the country with a long-term plan. That is why the government has adopted a plan by 2030, a plan by 2041 and a delta plan by 2100. The population of our country will be around 19 crore by 2050. However, by the year 2100, the population of the country will be reduced to around 150 million - that is what the statistics say. Storms, floods, tidal surges and the impact of climate change are our constant companions. In view of that reality, if there is no plan from now on, it will be difficult to make it sustainable even if it makes the country prosperous. That’s why long-term planning. We request DFP to publish the booklet in English.

Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mohammad Mokbul Hossain thanked the Film and Publication Department for publishing the booklet. He said the Nature Consistent Delta Plan 2100 is indicative of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's unique foresight to move Bangladesh towards sustainable development. The booklet will be very helpful in presenting this big plan to the people easily.
