Bangladesh government is stepping up security across the country ahead of the 12th Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election which is scheduled to be held in the first week of January, 2024. The election schedule will be announced in the next month (November).
Public safety is an exclusive responsibility of governmental law enforcement bodies in order to assist the election commission to hold a free, fair and credible election. Besides, level playing field must be ensured for all the participating political parties in the upcoming general election as the commission is determined to hold free, fair and peaceful polls.
Police force, BGB, Ansar, Coast Guard and other law enforcement forces are ready to conduct a fair and conflict-free election. They are capable of and efficient for holding the polls with professionalism.
Centering the elections, illegal weapons may come from outside the country, says a minister. That is why all the law and order forces, specially the BGB, have also been instructed to be more careful.
Police played the right role in all the elections since 1971. The most important matter is that the ministry will not have any role here. The election commission plays the key role. Security forces and administration always l be under their control during the polls period.
Police are conducting special drives to recover illegal weapons ahead of the upcoming national election. These operations are intensified on special occasions.
A peaceful environment
atmosphere is a must
ahead of the national
poll in the country
We are noticing that while the preparation is going to hold the next general election, some elements led by BNP-Jamaat clique are desperate to create unrest in the country with a target to oust the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. It seems clear that there has been a deep-rooted plot as the BNP wants to push politics and democratic procedure toward confrontation deliberately in order to foil the country’s next general election.
BNP is involved in waging movement to overthrow the government whereas Awami League is busy holding movement to protect people’s lives. Leaders and activists of BNP, its associate organisations and student wing attacked police in different places of the country during the party’s countrywide demonstrations.
Besides, the leaders and workers of Awami League, its associate organisations and student wing, who were in the field with its ‘peace’ programme, also came under attack by BNP men. Therefore, a peaceful environment atmosphere is a must ahead of the national poll in the country.
Apart from law enforcement agencies, all have to remain cautious and come up necessary measures to maintain peaceful atmosphere throughput the country. If vested elements want to spoil the election, they will be resisted.
In this regard, people’s participation, alongside police and media, is needed to ensure law and order ahead of national poll. We want a participatory election. The nation’s expectation is also the same.
A section of people from different political parties have tendency to carry illegal weapons, engage sabotage acts and religious provocation. So, the authority concerned must take stringent measures to prevent such chaos.
