Security committee on Cox’s Bazar airport meets

The 2nd meeting of the Security Committee was held in Cox's Bazar Airport Conference Room under the chairmanship of Air Vice Marshal Md. Mofidur Rahman, Chairman of Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority (BABICHAK). At the beginning of the meeting, the members of the committee inspected the expansion work of the runway in the sea along with the Cox's Bazar operation area. During the inspection the security risks on the air side of the airport are highlighted. Then the progress of runway extension project work was inspected. During the visit, Chairman Babychak inquired about the current status of the work. 

At that time, it was informed from the organization responsible for the project work that the current progress of Cox's Bazar International Airport runway expansion work is 36%. It is reported that it will be completed by September-October 2023.

After visiting the airport area, the meeting started. In the meeting, in order to upgrade the Cox's Bazar Airport to an international airport, there was a detailed discussion about identifying the security risks of the airport and its surrounding areas and solving them. In the meeting, the member (security) of BABICHAK put forward the proposal regarding more integration of the security system of the airport area from the point of view of aviation security and aerodrome certification. In his proposal, he highlighted the issue of strengthening the security of air side, terminal building and land side.

Representatives of Air Force Base, Air Captain of Cox's Bazar, NSI representative, DIG, Police Headquarters, Deputy Commissioner's representative, Cox's Bazar, Police Super, Cox's Bazar, RAB and other organizations gave their opinion on the proposal. In the speech, all assured full cooperation regarding the promotion of Cox's Bazar Airport to international airport.

Babychak Chairman said in the meeting, Prime Minister expressed his firm belief in realizing the dream of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman regarding upgrading Cox's Bazar Airport to international airport. Due to his direction, the runway of Cox's Bazar Airport was increased from 6 thousand feet to 9 thousand feet. Hon'ble Prime Minister landed at Cox's Bazar in the first long flight. Cox's Bazar Airport Sea Expansion is progressing with his sole efforts. He wished for the concerted initiative and cooperation of all local institutions to realize this dream of the Father of the Nation and the firm commitment of the Honorable Prime Minister to "turn Cox's Bazar Airport into an international airport".
