An under construction sculpture of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at the corner of Kushtia Municipality has been smashed by miscreants amidst the threat of extremist communal groups.

In such a situation, police headquarters has directed to provide security to the sculptures, monuments and memorials of Bangabandhu installed in different parts of the country including Chattogram.

Chattogram Range Police and CMP have already taken steps to take necessary steps through the Officer-in-Charges of all police stations after receiving instructions from the headquarter.

Chattogram Range DIG Anwar Hossain said, "The SPs of Chattogram Range have been informed about the instructions of the police headquarters to take necessary steps including increasing surveillance to ensure the safety of Bangabandhu's sculptures”.

CMP Deputy Commissioner Abdul Warish Khan said, "OCs of all CMP police stations have already been instructed to strengthen the security of Bangabandhu's sculpture. We have made a list of places in the city where there are sculptures and actions are being taken accordingly”.

Basically, the sculptures, monuments and monuments of Bangabandhu will be listed first.  Although police will not be deployed directly from the list, surveillance and patrols will be increased.

It is learned that on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a 'Bajrakantha' sculpture has been erected at Barapol intersection in Chattogram's Halishahar.  The 26 feet high sculpture with a base was installed at a cost of Tk 87 lakh 70 thousand with the funding of Chittagong City Corporation.

The height of the original sculpture is 22 feet.  The permanent form of the sculpture is given by casting white cement (RCC), which weighs about 30 tons.  Earlier, the original sculpture was made of clay for about 4 months.  On July 29 this year, former CCC mayor AJM Nasir Uddin inaugurated the sculpture.

Besides, CDA has installed two murals of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at both ends of Bangabandhu Avenue (Oxygen-Kuaish Link Road) in the city.  The mural at Kuaish end is 42 feet high and the mural at Oxygen end is 26 feet high.

Besides, there are sculptures, murals and monuments of Bangabandhu in many places of the city including District Shilpakala Academy, Chittagong Press Club and Engineers Institution.
