The government on Thursday beefed up security across the county after banning the anti-liberation force Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and its radical student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Talking to the Bangladesh Post, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) of Police Headquarters Inamul Haque Sagar confirmed it.
The spokesman of Bangladesh Police said, “We have taken all-out security measures across the country to prevent any untoward incidents over the ban of Jamaat-Shibir.”
“We have also instructed our all operational units to strengthen patrol and vigilance across the country so that no quarters can create anarchy, he added.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP has) beefed up security in the capital city of Dhaka, following the announcement of the ban on Jamaat-Shibir, DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman said.
He also said the DMP is ready to combat any terrorism and sabotage following the ban on Jamaat-Shibir. “We have strengthened security at different important establishments in the capital.”
It is learnt that the police have increased their security at various intersections in the capital Dhaka. At the same time, patrolling and check posts have also been beefed up.
Besides police, members of paramilitary force Boarder Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are patrolling different areas across the country to fend off any untoward incidents.
Earlier, members of Bangladesh Army were deployed across the country in aid to the civil administration in the wake of the recent violence during the students’ quota reform movement.
The Public Safety Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification banning Jamaat-e-Islami, Chhatra Shibir and their front organisations as per Section 18(1) of the Anti-Terrorism Act 2009 by the government’s executive order.
