The district administration of Tangail has imposed Section 144 in the town for 72 hour fearing violence between the activists of two rival factions of district Awami League. The administration imposed the ban from Thursday 5:00am to Saturday 7:00pm on Wednesday evening, said the additional district magistrate Md Shahidullah, saying, “We have imposed the ban on public gathering in the areas to prevent any untoward incident.”

The section was slapped after two groups of local AL called meeting and programmes at the same venues at same time. According to Kazi Golam Ahad, senior district information officer, Tangail 3 lawmaker Ataur Rahman Khan chalked out different programmes to mark the 16th death anniversary of his elder son and former Bangladesh Chhatra League leader Aminur Rahman Khan Bappi who was killed on November 21 in 2003.

Another AL faction, led by Tangail 2 lawmaker Tanvirul Islam Chhoto Monir and Tangail municipality mayor Jamilur Rahman Miron declared different programmes against the prescheduled programmes called by Ataur Rahman. Additional members of police and Rapid Action Battalion were deployed in the town to avoid any untoward situation.
