The local administration has imposed section 144 in Haripur upazila of Thakurgaon after two rival groups of ruling Awami League initiated separate programs at the same time in the same place on Wednesday morning.
Restaining any kind of political gathering on Wednesday, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Abdul Karim imposed the ban on their gathering.
‘The restriction is set to be effective from 10 am on Wednesday until Saturday. The ban was imposed as Thakurgaon’s unit Awami League President Dabirul Islam and General Secretary Sadek Kuraishi called separate programs at the same venue simultaneously on Wednesday morning’, the UNO said.
Both the leaders were at loggerheads over formation of local committee of the party’s Bakua Union unit. UNO Abdul Karim said: “Section 144 was imposed to avoid any untoward situation in the area. "Additional security forces have been deployed in this regard.
