Authorities have imposed Section 144 in Tharapur village of Chakla Union, Bera Upazila (Pabna), from 10am Sunday to 10am Monday, following renewed violence over a mosque dispute.

Tensions escalated on Saturday after the death of 40-year-old Hadis, who had been seriously injured in a clash the previous day. He passed away around 2pm while receiving treatment at Bogura’s Shaheed Zia Medical College Hospital. The news of his death triggered fresh unrest, leading to widespread violence, looting, and arson. At least 15 houses were ransacked, and 20 homes were set ablaze before fire services, aided by locals, managed to bring the situation under control.

The violence stems from a long-standing dispute between two groups of worshippers over Eid prayers and religious practices. The conflict reignited when one group attempted to extend a newly constructed mosque, sparking opposition from the other.

Police and army personnel were deployed to the area to stabilise the situation. One suspect, Selim, has been arrested in connection with the clashes. Law enforcement activities are ongoing, and local officials report the situation is now under control.
