Following the government’s decision to divide areas with severe infection into zones and then imposing lockdowns is in effect since yesterday.

This is an initiative that was planned to curb the rising number of infected in prime city areas and to decrease the death toll which has reached over eleven hundred in the recent days.

A report published in this daily projected that public and private offices and businesses will remain shut in the areas, to be flagged as 'red zones', where none will be allowed to enter or leave.

This strictness is something that had been missing in the first lockdown. Also, the opening of garment factories played a crucial role in the spread of the virus.

Had the present circumstance been foreseen before and the current steps taken beforehand, the rate of infection could have been reduced substantially.

Nevertheless, it is laudable that this immediate action was taken by the government. This will hopefully be more strengthened with the public awareness of health rules and following them.

Often times it is seen that people are indifferent to wearing masks when they go out and mix abundantly without the concern for social distancing.

It is to be kept in mind that the law enforcement will be diligent in carrying out their duties to protect the people from the people maintaining their oath to uphold the constitution and the rights of the people.

Although the death rate in Bangladesh is 75 percent lower than in China, it has surpassed China two days ago in terms of the number of victims.

Three months after the outbreak in China, the first case of the new coronavirus was detected in Bangladesh on March 8, the first news of its death 10 days after that.

Among the South Asian countries, Bangladesh has the highest number of patients identified in India and Pakistan. The death rate in Bangladesh is 1.35 percent.

If we want to reduce the infected and mortality, then everyone has to follow the hygiene rules. Additionally, wearing masks should be made mandatory. There is no other option beside it.
