Garment factories have started vaccinating workers of the readymade garment sector in the second phase.

Mithila Group's factory workers have been vaccinated in collaboration with Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) as part of the second phase of the vaccination programme.

The BGMEA informed the matter to the media through a press release sent on Sunday.

According to the press release, the vaccination programme for Mithila Group’s factory workers started on Saturday (August 7).

Local MP Nazrul Islam Babu, Mithila Group Chairman Azhar Khan, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Saima Afroz Eva and Civil Surgeon of Araihazar Upazila were present during the vaccination of workers.

The first phase of the vaccination programme for garment and textile workers started before Eid-ul-Azha in Gazipur on July 18.

In the first phase, a total of 29,000 workers of four factories were vaccinated. In continuation of this initiative, the second phase of the vaccination started with the inoculation of the workers of Mithila Group factory in Narayanganj.

Workers of the garment and textile industries have been working amid the pandemic to protect the country's economy.

Earlier, the BGMEA requested the government and the concerned authorities to bring them under the vaccination programme on a priority basis.

BGMEA President Faruque Hassan welcomed the initiative of the vaccination programme for garment and textile workers.

He expressed his sincere gratitude to the government in this regard and said that there is no alternative to mass vaccination of the workers of the garment and textile industry to revive the country's economy.
