The Ministry of Youth and Sports formed a five-member search committee last Thursday. Before commencing their official duties, the search committee paid a courtesy visit to Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan, the Youth and Sports Advisor on Thursday.

The search committee spent nearly an hour discussing various matters with the Youth and Sports Advisor at the ministry. Following the meeting, the committee's convener, Zobaidur Rahman Rana, stated, "All five committee members were present. The advisor has placed his trust in us to reform the sports sector and provide proper guidance. He expects a systematic and orderly practice within the sports arena. We expressed our gratitude for his confidence in us."

The search committee's responsibilities include evaluating the activities of federations/associations, reviewing constitutions, and examining election procedures, among other tasks.

The convener mentioned that the first meeting would prioritise these issues, stating, "We will create a priority list during our first meeting and proceed with the tasks accordingly."

Since 5th August, most federations, excluding football and cricket, have been relatively inactive. The dissolution of district and divisional committees has left federation officials uncertain about future developments, diverting their focus from organising sports events. The formation of the search committee has piqued the curiosity of everyone in the sports sector. To address this curiosity, the search committee plans to hold a weekly press briefing. "There are high expectations from this committee within the sports sector. We will provide weekly media briefings to update on our progress, ensuring that federation officials and sports personalities are informed. It is also essential to keep ongoing activities operational," said the convener.

The search committee's office has been set up in a mini-conference room adjacent to the secretary's office at the National Sports Council building. Over the next two months, the search committee will hold several meetings. If members cannot attend in person, they will join via video conference. The secretary of the National Sports Council and the joint secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports will provide secretarial support for these meetings. Both were present during today's courtesy visit with the advisor.
