Sylhet Division Journalists’ Association (SDJA), a platform for the journalists of Sylhet division working in the capital; gets new leadership for the 2023-24 session.
Editor of Daily Swapna Bangla Kazi Tofail Ahmed and director and news chief of Channel S Shankar Maitra have been elected as president and general secretary of the SDJA respectively.
The full committee of the platform will be announced within the next 10 days.
The new leadership was elected at the annual general meeting and first conference of SDJA at Hotel Sky City at Malibagh in the capital on Friday.

The annual general meeting and conference was held with SDJA President Azizul Parvez in the chair. Poet and journalist Shamim Azad, senior journalist and consultant editor of Daily Observer Faruk Ahmed, editor of Pratidiner Bangladesh Mustafiz Shafi, executive editor of Dhaka Tribune Reaz Ahmad, Awami League’s organising secretary Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, professor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Dr Mamun Al Mahtab Swapnil and former president of Bangladesh Mudron Samity Tofayel Ahmed spoke at the conference, among others.
Acting editor of Daily Desh Rupantor Mostafa Mamun, deputy director of National Institute of Mass Communication Mohammed Abu Sadique, Mostafa Selim of Utsha Prokashon and social worker of Sunamganj Selim Ahmed also attended the event, while MP from Sylhet-3 Habibur Rahman spoke at the event virtually and senior vice president of SDJA Mohiuddin Polash delivered welcome speech. General Secretary of the organisation Jharna Moni moderated the event.

Later, the election commission members; led by SDJA’s Chief Election Commissioner Ikhtiar Uddin; announced the new committee at the concluding session of the day-long event.
It can be mentioned that the platform for Dhaka-based journalists of Sylhet division was floated following the announcement of SDJA’s first committee on February 10 in 2021.
Since its inception, the organisation has contributed to the overall development of its community through mutual relations, professional excellence, and professionalism.
