‘SDGs are rationale for a shared and universal understanding

"Sustainability is a solution to maintain and balance the changes that occur in the world and in various aspects. Based on the Triple Bottom Lines (3Ps: People, Planet, and Profit) as the main pillar, the concept of sustainability continues to grow until now", experts underscored in the Sustainability Practitioner Conference.

They said the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a world agenda that has been running since it was inaugurated in 2015. The Indonesian government and stakeholders, including practitioners, have carried out various strategic steps to support their achievements. SDGs has become the rationale for a shared understanding for all parties involved.

National Center for Sustainability Reporting (NCSR) and the Institute of Certified Sustainability Practitioners (ICSP), Indonesia organised the 4thSustainability Practitioner Conference (SPC) in Bali, Indonesia, aiming at supporting agenda of SDGs. The two conference began on Friday with the theme “Towards standardized sustainability reports to enhance Good Corporate Governance (GCG) and sustainable performance.” The inaugural panel discussion of the conference took place on Friday at Udayana University, Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. Dr. Ali Darwin, Executive Director of NCSR and Professor Dr. Eko Ganis Sukoharsono, Chairman of Board of Directors of ICSP delivered welcome speech.

In the panel discussion, speakers underscored that through a sustainability report, it is possible to assess how far the company has contributed to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Some other topics related on sustainability, SDGs, climate change, material conservation & energy, integrated reporting were presented in the first day of conference. Md. Touhidul Alam Khan, FCMA, Deputy Managing Director & Chief Business Officer of Prime Bank attended as distinguished panel member in the conference. As the first Certified Sustainability Reporting Assurer (CSRA) and Certified Sustainability Practitioner (CSP) as well, Khan has underscored the initiatives of central bank’s initiatives regarding implementation of sustainability reporting practices in Bangladesh under global reporting initiative (GRI) method. Bangladesh has started green banking activities since 2011 as per central bank’s guidelines, told in the conference.

Prof. Eko Ganis appreciated the green banking activities in Bangladesh and emphasized that other neighbouring countries can follow the model of Bangladesh. He presented the history of sustainability and sustainability reporting in the world. The 4th Sustainability Practitioner conference (SPC) where the main theme is to bring together academicians, business persons and government (ABG) to exchange and share the research results and the experiences of sustainability implementations in their different fields from different Asian countries, like, Singapore, Philippines. Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh and others.

The Conference also provide an interdisciplinary platform for policy makers, top managers, researcher, practitioners and academicians to discuss the most recent implementations, trends and concerns on the SDGs. As aware of, SDGs are a world agenda that needs support from various parties for their achievements. Therefore, the Conference is organized to update our knowledge and understanding on the implementation of the sustainability implementations and the SDGs. Touhidul Alam Khan also made a presentation as panel member on “Contribution on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Bangladesh Perspective” in second day of Conference on Saturday.
