The Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Film Festival 2025 officially began on Thursday in Chongqing, China. The five-day event promises a rich celebration of cinema, technology, and international friendship under the theme ‘Technology & Film · Charm of the SCO.’

This year’s festival is especially significant as it marks the 130th anniversary of world cinema and the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema. The festival runs alongside the SCO Summit, making it an important cultural event that strengthens cooperation and mutual understanding among SCO countries.

Organisers have arranged various exciting events for visitors and participants. The festival will showcase dozens of outstanding films from SCO member nations, offering audiences a chance to experience diverse cultures and storytelling styles.

Screenings of selected films from different countries will take place at multiple venues in Chongqing throughout the festival.

Apart from film screenings, the event features international cooperation forums, where filmmakers and producers can discuss future collaborations and cultural exchanges. There are also exhibitions on new technologies in filmmaking, highlighting advancements in visual effects, sound production, and virtual reality.

Tourism promotion activities have been arranged to showcase Chongqing’s scenic beauty and historical attractions to international guests. One of the highlights of the festival is the stunning drone light shows, lighting up the city’s night sky and attracting large crowds.

The festival will conclude with a grand closing ceremony on July 6, where the winners of the Jinshancha (Golden Camellia) Awards will be announced.

These awards recognize outstanding achievements in filmmaking within the SCO

community.

The SCO Film Festival continues to be a powerful platform for storytelling and cultural exchange, bringing together filmmakers, artists, and audiences from different nations through the universal language of cinema.
