The Chinese government will not tolerate any attempt by anyone in Hong Kong that will hit the bottom line of the principle "one country, two systems".

A recent press conference of The State Council Information Office of China (SCIO) said these. The press conference was arranged to introduce the Chinese government's position and views on the current situation in Hong Kong.

The press conference further said that the acts of violence committed by a small number of radicals, has undermined Hong Kong's prosperity and stability, challenged the rule of law and social order and threatened personal and property safety of the residents of Hong Kong.

Yang Guang and Xu Luying spokespersons of the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, and Xi Yanchun, spokesperson of the State Council Information Office addressed the programme.

Yang Guang hoped that Hong Kong people will resolutely uphold the rule of law. “Violence will not be tolerated in any civilized society and a society of rule-of-law. It is hoped that the general public of Hong Kong will be aware of the seriousness of the current situation and jointly condemn the evil and criminal acts committed by the radicals so as to prevent them from sabotaging Hong Kong.”

Yang Guang further said the central government firmly supports Chief Executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Carrie Lam in leading the HKSAR government to rule according to the law.

Since Hong Kong's return to the motherland, the implementation of the principle of "one country, two systems" there has achieved widely recognized success.
