A science debate festival was held in Thakurgaon under the theme “Debate for Reasoning, Science for Freedom,” engaging students from eight educational institutions. The event took place on Thursday at the Thakurgaon Press Club.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Md Entazul Haque, lecturer at Puraton Thakurgaon Technical and BM College.
Acting President of Thakurgaon Press Club, Lutfar Rahman Mithu, formally inaugurated the event. Also present was Zobayed Ali, District Child Affairs Officer.
The science debate festival was jointly organised by the Bangladesh Freedom Foundation (BFF) and the newspaper Samakal, with support from the Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC. The initiative is part of the 11th BFF-Samakal National Science Debate Festival, aiming to inspire scientific thinking among school students.
Participating schools included Thakurgaon Government Boys’ High School, Government Girls’ High School, RK State High School, Collectorate High School, Mathurapur Public High School, Gilabari Adarsha High School, Police Lines High School, and Amanatullah Islamic Academy.
Judges for the event were Zobayed Ali, Senior Lecturer Arif Ali of Thakurgaon Road College, and Yunus Ali, district moderator of the National Debate Forum Bangladesh. Jihaduzzaman Jisan, President of the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Press Club, also participated.
