Schools, colleges ordered to hold assemblies inside classrooms

Amid the growing fears over the novel coronavirus in the country, the government yesterday ordered schools and colleges to hold daily assemblies inside classrooms. “All offices and educational institutions under the Secondary and Higher Education Department (SHED) are advised to avoid crowds under the prevailing situations,” the SHED said in a notice on Thursday.

It said, educational institutions are asked to reschedule their cultural, sports and other events that draw crowds. “Daily assemblies will be held inside classrooms until further notice. Students will perform national anthem inside the classrooms,” it added.

On Mar 8, Bangladesh first reported that three people were tested coronavirus or COVID-19 positive. Of them, two returned homes from Italy recently while a female family member of one returnee contracted the virus from him. The government, however, yesterday said that two of the patients have been allowed to go home as a test confirmed that they were virus-free. Frist reported in China by late last year, the COVID-19 has infected over 126,000 people with over 4600 deaths in over 115 countries.
