Miscreants broke into a house in broad daylight and hacked a schoolgirl to death. The incident took place on Monday afternoon in the Chandanbari Narandi area of Monohardhi municipality of Narsingdi.
The deceased was identified as Anika, 15, the daughter of Shahajada Nur E Alam from the West Poradia area of Belabo Upazila. During the incident, the victim's aunt, Papia Akter, 45, was also injured.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Monohardi Police Station Md juel Rana confirmed the matter.
Police recovered a blood-stained machete from the scene. Although investigations are underway, the motive and identities of the attackers remain unknown, added the OC.
According to relatives of the victims, in the afternoon, the assailants broke into the house and attacked housewife Papia Akter and her tenth-grade student niece Anika, who was studying at home, with a machete before fleeing the spot. Anika died at the spot due to her injuries.
Hearing the screams of the injured, local residents rushed to help and the miscreants manage to fleed. Papiya was critically injured and was first taken to Monohardi Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Dhaka Medical College for better treatment.
