The minor students of class three and four have been taking lessons under the open sky round the year. They take shelter at the varanda of the school when it rains. The minor children feel sick as they have been sitting on the gunny bags on the earth.

But no school building was constructed for the school after repeated request from the guardians and local people. As a result, academic activities have been hampered in the school established about four decades ago.

During a visit to Singdah Government Primary School under Kaliganjupazila in Jhenaidah, this correspondent witnessed that 37 learners of class three and another 42 of class four were sitting on gunny bags under the open sky. A total of 220 students have been studying in the school.

Some guardians said they are compelled to send their children in the school as there is no more primary school in the locality.

Headmaster of the school ASM Jahurul Islam said they have been facing acute classroom crisis. They have been also been facing teachers’ shortage as only five teachers including him (headmaster) have been serving there.

Upazila Primary Education Officer Selina Akter Banu said that they had submitted list of all the ailing schools long ago which might be constructed at any moment. If the new buildings are constructed, the burning problems of the schools like Singdah Government Primary school might be solved.
